At Reliance AGM 2020, Reliance Industries Limited has made some important announcements along with investment of whopping Rs. 33,737 Cr. by Google on Jio Platforms’ 7.7% stakes. The company has announced that Jio is launching Jio Glass, Jio TV+, 5G solution and some updates on JioMart.
Reliance AGM 2020 Major Announcements
According to Ambani, Jio has completed its work on 5G solutions in order to introduce superfast 5G service across the nation. Even better, the company has promised that 5G technology will be developed completely in India. The company has also announced in Reliance AGM 2020 that it will start 5G trails soon and will deploy the same by 2021. He also discussed the partnership of Jio with Google to develop an Android OS for smartphones. It was the 43rd AGM which was held online for the first time through different audio-visual modes like video conferencing.
Jio TV Plus
Users will soon have one log-in id to watch their favorite contents on Disney+ hotstar, Amazon Prime, Netflix, SonyLiv, Zee5 and several other OTT platforms with Jio Fiber Plans. Jio TV+ will be the new OTT platform from the company. It will be integrated to several OTT apps in single interface. Akash Ambani also showcased a demo of its interface. According to him, this app will support 12 OTT platforms so viewers can easily choose content without having to subscribe to each new platform.
The content will be well categorized as per genres in its interface to navigate easily. Jio TV Plus users can easily find movies and TV shows in various categories. The voice command will further help to get to the desired content easily. A Polling option is another great feature. Users can easily access the poll numbers in real time.
A 5G Solution which is 100% Made in India
The auctions for 5G spectrum might start soon in India. Because of declining financial condition of telecom sector, 5G spectrum auction were delayed in India to 2021. With around 20 partners, Jio Platforms has come up with top-end features in 5G technologies like Cloud computing, OS and Devices, AR/VR, Big Data, Natural language understanding, Blockchain and Computer Vision.
The company can use such technologies to come up with great solutions across several ecosystems and industries like finance, media, eCommerce, healthcare, education, smart city development, agriculture, smart mobility and manufacturing. The complete rollout of 5G might be possible during the next 2 to 3 years. But Jio is planning something big for 5G solutions.
Reliance Jio also announces mixed reality (MR) glasses at Reliance AGM 2020 to enhance video calling experiences with 3D holograms, 3D avatars and other usual features. The weight of these glasses is 75g and has personalized audio. A cable will come with the glass to attach it to your smartphone for various scenarios.
This MR glass can easily combine virtual and real-life aspects to form visuals and environments which are completely new. The glasses will have a HD display to improve the user experience. It can easily connect with real-world environments.
Considering the COVID-19 lockdown issues, Jio Glass will be able to conduct 3D virtual classes thanks to Jio MR Cloud. Online classes will be taken to the next level with its mixed reality factor. Finally, students can have something more interesting than boring online classes on their laptop or mobile devices.
Affordable 4G/5G Smartphones thanks to Google-Jio Partnership
Reliance Jio has partnered with Google at Reliance AGM 2020 to bring budget 4G and mid-range 5G smartphones in order to make 2G-free country (better call “2G-mukt” Bharat). As per the pact, Google has agreed to provide its Play Store and software optimization to its OS for Jio Smartphones. Both Jio and Google had given same statement on Wednesday, July 15, 2020. According to experts, Jio might launched the cheapest 5G device across the world which is bundled by the operator itself.
The company might also bring budget 4G or 5G smartphone which will be built for a part of its existing cost. The company needs a robust and well-optimized OS to come up with such a powerful smartphone. This way, Jio has partnered with Google to build such types of smartphones in India. According to Ambani, it’s time to help around 350 million Indians to switch to a budget smartphone, who are still using 2G phones.
